RADIO RAICES CULTURA
95.1 FM KWXZ
POWER TO THE PEOPLe
Our very own radio station puts literal power in the hands of people. Radio Raices Cultura, a low-power frequency station, serves as a tool for exposure to culture and community building rather than serving the public solely as entertainment.
Through an ongoing partnership with Radio Bilingüe in Fresno, CA, we are able to rebroadcast their diverse programming to include original segments like Linea Abierta with Maria Araña and nationally syndicated content like Democracy Now with Amy Goodman.
a COMMUNITY-LED vision
Radio Raices Cultura is expanding the station capacity to include a radio broadcasting training program! Through generous grant support, we were able to spearhead a youth program in 2019-2020 for high school students throughout the Coachella Valley. In mid-2020, we will begin our first adult cohort of participants.
Under the guidance of a small team of advisors, select program participants and other community members will become contributors who develop original content for our local programming.

OUR JOURNEY…
Phase One - INSTALLATION AND TRAINING
Through a grant from The California Endowment in partnership with Radio Bilingüe, the first phase of the station development included the FCC permit application process, procurement & installation of equipment and antenna, extensive technical support, and intensive hands-on training sessions for a select group of local community participants and Raices Cultura staff. An initial logo for the station was created by Raices alumna Jacky “Pancha” Aguilar.

PHASE TWO - RECORDING STUDIO and STUDENT PROGRAM
Through a grant from The Anderson Children’s Foundation with additional support from LUSH Cosmetic’s Charity Pot, the second phase of the station development included the pilot Raices Cultura Media Production Program, along with the purchase of additional audio equipment, construction of a separate interview recording room, audio software licenses, and funding for program educators.

PHASE Three - PROGRAM PARTNERS AND STATION MANAGEMENT
The next round of development for the station is to launch original daily content, create a training program focused on off-site broadcasting and interviews in the field, and create partnerships with academic institutions for student internships. We want Radio Raices Cultura 95.1 FM to be the ECV student broadcasting hub. Our next fundraising goals also include hiring a station manager!
